Despite heavy involvement with computers and software since the end of the 1970's, I've always played with new designs of 'proper things', winning a prestigious John Logie Baird Award for headset design (cellular phones) in the early 1990's, a European award for a Sushi press, and now, this method of producing Free Charcoal.
It is probably not an accident that all the design areas have reflected something which was consuming my interest at that time of my life. As you will guess, living in the Scottish highlands on the Argyll coast has made me resent buying charcoal as we do cook in the garden rather a lot!
All kidding aside, making one's own charcoal is quite satisfying but even better is the quality of cooking.
